The Best Things to Do and to See in Mallorca

With its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters, charming towns, and beautiful architecture, Mallorca is my favorite summer getaway in Europe. I spent nearly a year there, and I can honestly say it’s impossible not to fall in love with this island. In this blog post, I've put together my favorite things to do and see in Mallorca, along with my top recommendations. The island offers plenty of activities, gorgeous beaches, and great restaurants, all of which I’ve included in this travel guide featuring must-do experiences in Mallorca. If you haven’t seen my Ultimate Guide to Mallorca with 10-day itinerary, be sure to take a look here.

Cala Gat, Mallorca

Visit the most beautiful beaches & calas of mallorca

Mallorca is home to plenty of beautiful beaches and coves, each offering a unique vibe. Some are better suited for swimming than others, but my favorites are in the North and East, where you'll find the clearest waters and soft, sandy shores. With over 200 beaches to choose from, how many you can visit really depends on how much time you’ll have. Here’s a list of my top picks:

  • South Coast of Mallorca (Es Trenc, Cala des Moro, Cala s’Almunia, Cala Mondrago)

  • East Coast of Mallorca (Cala Llombards, Cala Romantica, Cala Gat, Cala Aqulla)

  • Noth Coast of Mallorca (Playa de Muro in Alcudia, Playa de Formentor)

  • West Coast of Mallorca (Cala Deia, Soller Beach)

If you would like to explore all the beaches in Mallorca, check out this blog post with my 10 favorite beaches in Mallorca.

stroll in the streets of valldemossa, Deia and fornalutx

Mallorca is home to many wonderful towns with cobbled streets, surrounded by majestic mountains. My favorite towns to explore are Valldemossa and Deia. They are quite popular areas, but if you’re looking for more quiet place, still beautiful, but calmer, check out Fornalutx. It’s recently become one of my favorite villages in Mallorca. You can easily visit all three towns in a single day while exploring the island.

VIsit soller and take an old tram to port de soller

Soller and Port de Soller are two picturesque towns located in the northwest of Mallorca, nestled within the Tramuntana Mountains. They are situated only 3 km apart from each other, connected with a vintage, orange tramway which goes from one town to another. They both offer a mix of natural beauty, historical charm and seaside relaxation, maxing them a must-visit on the island od Mallorca.

Soller

Soller is an inland town, famous for its scenic beauty, orange and olive groves, and stunning architecture. The town has a rich history and it was a center of the citrus trade in the 19th century, this is why you feel the citrus-orange vibe there. You can even try the orange ice cream in Soller!

Tram de Soller

Port de Soller

Port de Soller is the coastal counterpart of Soller and it’s a small harbor town located along the bay. You can find there a beautiful, waterfront promanade with lots of nice boutiques and restaurants. There’s nothing more magical than sitting in one of the restaurants and admiring beautiful views of sunset.

TIP: I recommend leaving your car in Soller and taking a historic old tram to the port. The tramway passes through the orange groves, making it an interesting journey with picturesque views.

The tram costs 9 euros per person, per way. You can purchase the ticket directly on board.

go on a day trip to cap de formentor

Cap de Formentor is definitely one of the best places to visit in Mallorca. Formentor is a dramatic and scenic peninsula located on the northermost point of Mallorca. It’s one of the most breathtaking areas of the island, combining rugged cliffs, crystal clear waters and panoramic views of Medeterranean Sea.

My favorite spot for sunrises and sunsets at Cap de Formentor is Mirador es Colomer. It’s easily accessible year-round. However, if you want to make it to the very end of the Formentor Peninsula and visit the Formentor Lighthouse, be sure to go early in the morning.

From June 1 until Septmeber 30, 2024 (but usually every year in high season), the road from 10 am to 10.30 pm is closed for private cars. You can only take a public bus or cab to reach the lighthouse. I strongly suggest visiting Formentor Lighthouse early in the morning.

watch sunrise from playa de muro

Playa de Muro is a long and beautiful beach located on the northern coast of Mallorca, near the town of Alcudia. It’s one of the island’s longest and most beautiful beaches, stretching over 5 kilometers, and is known for its fine, white sand and clear, shallow waters.

This year, we stayed in of of the hotels located at Playa de Muro. It was Condessa Hotel (book it here). The location was amazing, we woke up every day admiring sunrise and beautiful views. Highly recommend booking this hotel if you would like to be located close to Playa de Muro. The photos below were taken 5 min walk from the hotel.

Go Shopping to one of the boho boutiques

Mallorca is home to a wide range of charming boutiques, offering everything from artisanal products and high-end fashion to unique souvenirs and hand-made crafts. I personally prefer shopping in small villages rather than in Palma, since you will find there better quality products with more affordable prices.

Mallorca is well known from hand-made ceremics made on the island. You can purchase it almost in every town. The best places for shopping are: Santanyi, Ses Salines, Arta, Llucmajor, Alcudia Old Town, Deia, Valldemossa, Soller and Port de Soller. In each of these town, you’ll find my favorite stores.

My favorite boutiques are Cas Siquier, Afra, Flor de Sal, Aqua de Baleares and Bali Living (they have an online store based in Mallorca, but you can get in touch through @baliliving.eu Instagram to pick up your order).

GRAB A DRINK in casai grand cafe in ses salines

Cassai Grand Cafe & Restaurant is a charming restaurant located in Ses Salines. It was founded in a 300-year-old traditional Mallorcuin building, which nowadays looks like a vintage, mint barn. The restaurant features a rustic, Mediterranean ambiance, offering an elegant atmosphere and delicious cuisine. They serve Mediterranean cuisine with lots of seafood.

When I’m in the southern-east part of Mallorca, I always stop there for iced-tea or iced-coffee. Cassai Grand Cafe is very Instagrammable and looks so stunning! You should add this place to your Mallorca bucket list.

Rent a luxury yacht in Mallorca

If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience with beautiful views, renting a yacht in Mallorca is a must-do thing. My friend Ala (@alicjadragon) hosted her birthday on a luxury yacht, it was so much fun! The company they rented the yacht from was Caribia. Wine, beer and tapas were served throughout the experience, the staff was so nice and friendly!

have a drink in a rooftop bar and beach bar in mallorca

You can’t truly experience the vibe of Mallorca without visiting one of its rooftop or beach bars. There are plenty of rooftop bars, mostly located in the south near Magaluf and Palma de Mallorca. If you’re looking for less touristy and more tranquil spots, I’ve got you covered too!

Here are my favorite rooftop bars and beach bars in Mallorca:

  • Sky Bar Romanov (Port de Alcudia/Playa de Muro)

  • Coco Beach House (Cala Ratjada)

  • Es Princep Hotel (Palma de Mallorca)

  • Rooftop Sky Saratoga (Palma de Mallorca)

Visit the cathedral of palma de mallorca

The Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca (known as La Seu), is a stunning Gothic-style cathedral located in the center of Palma de Mallorca. When visiting Palma de Mallorca, you should check out this architecture wonder. It features the stunning rose window and contributions by Gaudi and Barcelo, it’s a must-visit place in Mallorca.

Don’t forget to stroll in the streets of Palma de Mallorca, visit other stunning places such as Bellver Castle, Passeig del Born (the boulvard with restaurants and boutiques) and Port of Palma.

If you would like to stay in Palma de Mallorca overnight, check out these hotels located near the Cathedral.
