Mallorca is my favorite summer destination in Europe (as you probably know), and it’s incredibly diverse. From blue waters to rugged mountains and charming hidden towns spread across the island, Mallorca is full of beautiful villages. You’ll definitely need a car to explore the prettiest ones, and I suggest spending at least 7-10 days on the island to fully soak in their charm. I also suggest having a rental car also lets you reach more remote spots and explore them all.

I love slow travel, and my suggestion is to explore Mallorca’s charming towns in the late afternoon or evening if you’re visiting in high season (June–August). Many are located in the mountains and can get very hot during the day. My favorite routine was to explore beaches and calas in the morning or early afternoon, then head back to the hotel to refresh and have lunch. After a break, I’d go out again to visit a cute town around 5 PM—one per day, or maybe two if they are located next to each other.

What are the best towns in mallorca that you should visit?

Valldemossa

Valldemossa is one of the most famous and charming mountain villages in Mallorca. Nestled in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, it's just a 20-minute drive from Palma, making it an easy day trip. The village is best known for its historic monastery, where composer Frédéric Chopin spent a winter, but what I love most are its flower-lined cobblestone streets, beautiful stone houses, and stunning valley views. It has such an authentic, peaceful atmosphere that makes it one of my favorite towns in Mallorca.

When you're in Valldemossa, don't miss a stop at my favorite café, Cappuccino. I always order a Pornstar Martini, and it's the perfect place to sit back and soak up the atmosphere. I also recommend visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon, as the village gets very busy during the day with tour groups.

SOLLER

Sóller is another charming town in Mallorca, located just a short drive from Valldemossa. It is a true gem of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, known for its historic architecture, local art museums, and the beautiful vintage wooden tram that connects the town with Port de Sóller. The town is also famous for its orange and lemon groves, which add to its unique character. Here you’ll find many great restaurants, cafés, and boutiques selling local artisan products. I love visiting Sóller, especially in the afternoon, when the town feels lively and you can simply soak up its atmosphere.

When in Soller, check out Plaça de la Constitució which is the center of the town. Have a coffee or glass of wine, the place is truly amazing!

What to see and to do in Soller:

Take the historic wooden tram from Sóller to Port de Sóller and enjoy the beautiful views along the way of lemon and orange trees (the tram costs 10 euros per person one way, HERE’S the timetable)

When visiting Sóller, don't miss Port de Sóller, its beautiful seaside sister town. Once a small fishing harbour, Port de Sóller has grown into a lively coastal town with excellent restaurants, cafés, and boutiques. With a sandy beach, a picturesque promenade, and a charming marina, it's the perfect place to spend a few relaxing hours. Take a walk along the waterfront, browse the local artisan shops, and stay for sunset—it's one of my favorite places to end the day. It's also the main departure point for boat trips and yacht charters to Sa Calobra and other beautiful spots along Mallorca's coastline.

Fornalutx

Nestled in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, Fornalutx is one of Mallorca's most charming villages. Located just a short drive from Sóller, it's hidden in a peaceful valley, making it feel quiet and secluded. Its narrow cobblestone streets, traditional stone houses, and flower-filled balconies and terraces make it a lovely place to explore. You'll also find cozy bars and restaurants, as well as boutique shops selling artisan products and local things. Fornalutx is a very charming Mediterranean village, a bit less popular and is one of the prettiest villages in Mallorca.

What to do and to see in Fornalutx:

Alcúdia Old Town

I probably visit Alcúdia Old Town more than any other village in Mallorca because my mom and stay in Playa de Muro every year. (If you're curious, we stay in Iberostar Waves Playa de Muro, you can book it here.) This charming town is just a 12-minute drive from our hotel, and I love how close it is. It's perfect for an evening stroll and feels like a completely different world from Playa de Muro.

Alcúdia Old Town is surrounded by well-preserved medieval walls, which you can walk along for beautiful views. With its narrow streets, small shops, cafés, restaurants, and charming corners, it's one of the best towns to visit in Mallorca, especially if you're staying in the north of the island.

DEIà

Deià is one of the famous villages in Mallorca. It has recently become a very popular place to visit, partly thanks to Instagram. Here you’ll find cobblestone streets, historic stone houses, charming corners, expensive boutiques, and art galleries, and one of the most luxury hotels in Mallorca, La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel (book it here), which is often featured on social media and attracts visitors from around the world. Even though the village has become more popular and upscale, Deià still feels authentic and is definitely worth adding to your Mallorca itinerary, even if you’re not planning to stay there.

Artà is a beautiful inland town with a relaxed atmosphere, traditional architecture, and fewer crowds than some of Mallorca’s more famous villages. It’s known for its impressive hilltop church (Santuari de Sant Salvador), surrounded by historic walls and fortress, offering beautiful views over the town and the Mallorcan countryside. The town itself is full of charming streets, local shops, cafés, and restaurants, making it a lovely place to explore and experience a more authentic side of Mallorca. You’ll barely find there tourist, the town is mostly known by locals.

Things to do and to see in Artà:

Climb the Santuari de Santa Salvador with the walls and fortress, admire the views
Visit the local market (on Tusdays) where you can find fresh produce, handmade crafts, local products, and souvenirs
Enjoy local cafés and restaurants – it’s a great place to slow down, enjoy a coffee away from the busier tourist areas

Capdepera

Capdepera is a small and peaceful town in the northeast of Mallorca, perfect if you’re looking for a quieter side of the island. Its charming streets, traditional stone houses, and relaxed atmosphere make it a lovely place to explore without the crowds. The town is best known for its impressive medieval castle, which sits on a hill above Capdepera and offers beautiful views over the surrounding area. Capdepera is very small, but authentic village where you can soak in the Mallorca vibes.

Ses Salines

Ses Salines is a charming town located in the southeast of Mallorca, known for its authentic atmosphere, traditional sandstone architecture, and relaxed Mallorca vibes. Life moves at a slower pace here. Ses Salines is also the perfect base for visiting some of Mallorca's most beautiful beaches and coves, including Caló des Moro, Cala Llombards, and Es Trenc. When in Ses Salines, don’t forget to stop at my favorite cafe and restaurant - Cassai Gran Café and a lovely main square where you can soak up the laid-back atmosphere. You'll also find plenty of great boutiques and local shops to explore.

Port d’Andratx is a chic and stylish natural harbor located just outside Palma de Mallorca. The best way to experience Port d’Andratx is to stroll around the marina, enjoy a drink at one of the waterfront bars, and watch the sunset over the harbor.

Puerto Portals (Portal Nous)

Puerto Portals is a glamorous luxury marina known for its impressive superyachts, upscale restaurants, elegant bars, and stylish cocktail lounges. It reminds me of destinations like Monaco or Marbella, offering a completely different atmosphere from Mallorca's charming historic villages and cobblestone streets. While it may not have the island's traditional character, it's definitely worth a visit for its sophisticated ambiance.

Over the years, Puerto Portals has attracted many celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey, Jenson Button, and Bill Gates. Although it's a favorite destination for yacht owners and the international jet set, anyone can enjoy strolling around the marina, soaking up the luxurious atmosphere, and admiring the spectacular yachts.
